Practicing the Writing Process:

Creating Critical Writing Units and Teacher Models

for the Elementary Classroom

Participants will create units and models they can use in their elementary classroom-- especially in preparation for standardized writing tests. These workshops are designed to give teachers a deep understanding of the writing process and how it fits into the Oklahoma Academic Standards with goals, strategies and assessments with rubrics.

 

Muskogee Dates:  Designed for teachers to attend all 3sessions.

                    Grades K-2                                         Grades 3-5

Session 3:  Friday, February 8                         Friday, March 1


McAlester Dates:  Designed for teachers to attend all 3sessions.

                    Grades K-2                                         Grades 3-5
Session 1: Friday, September 21                       Friday, October 26
Session 2: Friday, November 16                        Friday, January 25
Session 3:  Friday, February 22                         Friday, March 8


Times:  9:00am – 2:30pm (lunch included)

Locations:
Muskogee: Indian Capital Technology Center, Brackeen Center
McAlester: Kiamichi Tech Center, Multipurpose Room


Target Audience: Elementary Teachers K-2 and 3-5

 

Presenter: Pam Henley has been an educator for over 30 years.  She has taught Pre-K through college level.  She is a reading specialist and a certified academic language therapist. Pam has been a conference speaker for the International Reading Association, Oklahoma Reading Association, and Oklahoma Association for Bilingual Education.  She has been a literacy consultant and a professional development speaker conducting school-wide and small group workshops, seminars, and embedded coaching.
 

Purposes:

Day 1:  Introduction/Review of the writing process.
Day 2:  Writing with the standards in mind, OAS-ELA standards review.
Day 3:  Integrated Literacy - embedding writing into all areas of the curriculum in the elementary classroom with examples, rubrics and Q&A.


Cost:  $150 per person for OSAC districts (includes all 3 sessions, materials, lunch)
             $300 per person for non-member districts.
