 9:00 - 11:30:  Reading Process: Many teachers are struggling with the notion of "Balanced Reading/Literacy" and how to manage all the components in the school day/week/year.  This informative/interactive presentation explains what reading really is,  "how the brain reads," what current research teaches us about the components of Balanced Reading and Language programs AND effective strategies to teach them.

11:30 - 12:00 Lunch Provided

12:00 - 2:30 Vigorous Vocabulary: Word meaning is part of a Balanced Literacy Program and is a strong determiner of reading comprehension.  Participants will learn simple, fun, and effective teaching strategies for all classes and all grades. This is a FUN workshop!

 Target Audience:

  •   PK-12 Classroom teachers, reading specialists, special education teachers and administrators


  • Pam Henley has been an educator for over 30 years.  She has taught Pre-K through college level.  She is a reading specialist and a certified academic language therapist. Pam has been a conference speaker for the International Reading Association, Oklahoma Reading Association, and Oklahoma Association for Bilingual Education.  She has been a literacy consultant and a professional development speaker conducting school-wide and small group workshops, seminars, and embedded coaching.

Cost: Lunch included

  • $100 per person for OSAC member districts
  • $150 per person for non-member districts.
