Ditch That Textbook II

Ditch That Textbook II

Presented by

Nationally Acclaimed Presenter, Matt Miller

“The motivation to ditch that textbook isn’t only—or even mostly—driven by a desire to go paperless or create technology-powered lessons; it’s about purpose. What do you want to do with the powerful platform you’ve been given?”

― Matt Miller

8:30 - 3:30

Connors Port Campus Auditorium

Target Audience:

Teachers who want to learn more about effective use of educational technology.

Purpose:

Teachers are no longer the gatekeepers to education. With ubiquitous information available from Google searches, YouTube videos and social media, how do we as educators navigate the new landscape? It’s time to “Ditch That Textbook,” engaging students in digital spaces and rethinking our “textbook” beliefs about education. You’ll leave this session with lots of practical, “use in class tomorrow” ideas for using technology in the classroom. You’ll also be inspired and equipped to provide the most relevant education possible for your students. Thorough digital handouts save links to all your valuable content in one place to refer back to later.

Content:

  • Creativity and collaboration with G suite, part 2 -- Google tools like Slides and Drawings open up so many possibilites for students in all content areas and grade levels. See some practical ideas you can use right away and try them out yourself in this session.
  • Global collaboration with Skype and Google Hangouts -- With video calls, the world is at our doorstep. We can interact face to face with practically anyone in the world with an internet connection. How can we do it -- and how can we find guests that can join our classes virtually? It's easier than you think!
  • Fun formative assessment with Kahoot!, Quizizz and more -- There's a good chance you've played a Kahoot! game with your students. Quick formative assessment games are popular in classes. But, it's easy to get burned out on them with overuse. This session gives you new ways to use these popular tools.
  • The Lesson Design Jam -- The smartest person in the room is the room. When we all come together to create lessons, we benefit from the brilliance of others. Bring a lesson idea that needs a makeover and get tons of new iseas you can start using the next day.

Be sure to bring a laptop, Chromebook or tablet to get the most out of this workshop!
