Trauma Informed Education

November 10, 2021

8:30 - 3:30

Indian Capital Tech Center

Brackeen Center

2403 N 41st Street East

Muskogee, OK 74403

Target Audience:

All Educators!

Presenters:

Dr. Kaylin Coody has nearly forty years of experience in Oklahoma public schools. Recently retired as a Superintendent, she currently serves as Associate Director of OSAC. She brings expertise in special education, speech-language pathology, school finance and leadership. She has presented at numerous local, state and national conferences and provided consultation services to a variety of schools across the state.

Tahlequah Care Team: Nikki Molloy and Sara Jordan work with students in crisis through Tahlequah Public Schools' Outreach Center where families come for food, clothing, access to the internet, assistance enrolling students, getting on the internet, filling out forms for assistance, and any other help needed to keep students safe and attending school. They provide outreach, work with other agencies, tribes, churches, and other organizations to provide as many resources as possible for their students in trauma!

Purpose/Agenda:

Trauma Informed Education: What is trauma and how do children respond to trauma? How can we help them? How do we know their level of stress and what coping skills can we teach them to help them manage their stress?

Trauma in the Classroom: Is your school Trauma-Informed, Trauma-Sensitive, or Trauma-Skilled? What happens to learning and brain chemistry when a student experiences trauma? What steps implement trauma-informed instruction in the classroom? What changes in behaviors occur due to trauma and what protective factors can schools provide for these students?

Trauma Outside the Classroom: How can your school help families/students in crisis? What services in your community can you help them access to alleviate stress and trauma? Hear how one district is building trust and relationships with students and families who are homeless, dealing with multiple stressors, and who need help on many levels. Get ideas on how you can build a support system in your district, using the resources available in your community!

Cost:

$100 for OSAC Members
