Presented by:

Pam Henley has been an educator for over 30 years. She has taught Pre-K through college level. She is a reading specialist and a certified academic language therapist. Pam has been a conference speaker for over 25 years. She has been a literacy consultant and a professional development speaker conducting school-wide and small group workshops, seminars, and embedded coaching.

 

 

Purpose:

The Reading Process: How does your brain read? What is the process kids must go through to be skilled readers, AND what is the process of teaching those necessary skills?

* Learn the how's and why's behind appropriate and best reading instructions for kids who are just learning to read.

 

Comprehension: Learn how to build deep comprehension through dialogue and reflective discussion leading to responding critically and meaningfully to complex text. Learn the 7 Comprehension Strategies that every child needs from PK-12 grade!

 

Vocabulary & Fluency: Word meaning is a strong determiner of reading comprehension. Learn simple but fun and effective teaching strategies for all classes and all grades. This is a "must-do!"

Fluent reading is a hall mark of strong readers and is a good predictor of reading comprehension. Learn ways to develop fluency in readers of all ages. Taken from Dr. Tim Rasinski's book: Developing Fluent Readers.

 

Word Study & Grammar: Discover a multi-sensory and engaging way to teach spelling and word study strategies for grades K-5. In grammar training, participants will learn a fun, multi-sensory, brain building way to teach necessary grammar and sentence structure skills which leads to stronger reading and writing for students K-5.

Cancellation Policy:

Since meals, presenters, training materials, and other costs are pre-paid by OSAC, please provide notice of cancellation at least 4 days prior to any OSAC event you are registered to attend. Your district will not be charged for cancellations made within 4 days of the event. Cancellations within 48 hours of an OSAC event will be charged at half price. No-shows will be charged at full price. Thank you for understanding!
